Abstract

Title:The effect of infill on mechanical properties of PLA and ABS products made by additive technologies
Abstract:
Additive technologies are based on depositing and hardening material in layers. Most known is FFF (eng. Fused filament fabrication), known as FDM (eng. Fused deposition modeling). In this thesis, the influence of infill structure density on mechanical properties of the product is examined. Based on preliminary research, a new plan of experiments is prepared. The study examines a suitable level of inner filling with a chosen triangular inner structure for PLA and ABS material. According to standards for testing plastic specimens SIST EN ISO 178 and SIST EN ISO 179, the task was to print samples and perform bending and Charpy test. The results showed that material PLA has better bending properties, while material ABS achieve higher impact toughness. While infill rate increase, mechanical properties linearly improve. Improvement in mechanical properties is significantly noticeable between 90 % and 100 % infill rate. Therefore, for more heavily loaded parts, it is reasonable to use a 100 % infill rate. In the case of smaller loads, a minimum infill rate is recommended to achieve greater dimensional accuracy.
