The diploma thesis was prepared in a collaboration with the company Etiketa tiskarna d.d. Žiri, where the experimental part was conducted. The company uses transfer printing, which is one of the versions of screen printing, where the design is printed in a screen printing technique (mono- or multy-colour) on a special paper or a foil forming i.e. transfer, which is later, using a crusher, transferred onto a printing surface, at specific temperature and pressure.
For the production of the transfers different screen printing inks are being used. In order to ensure quality transfer of the transfer on the printing substrate screen printing inks need to posess certain properties. The company Etiketa tiskarna d.d. Žiri has been using for several years now screen printing inks from of one manufactorer, though lately they have decided to try new ones.
The purpose of the diploma thesis was to compare the existing water-based screen printing ink for the transfer printing with the new one. For this purpose, an analysis of the existing R1 and the newly selected R2 screen printing ink was conducted. In accordance with the privacy policy of the company, both printing inks are not named with their commercial names, in accordance the manufacturer's data is also missing. Transfers were printed in five different colour shades. Colour shades were for both selected printing inks prepared according to the same recepies, and the prints were produced under the same printing conditions.
The aim of the diploma thesis was to establish whether the newly selected R2 screen printing ink can replace the existing R1. For that purpose, several measurements, researches and comparisments have been made, all in accordance with the selected quality parameters, determined by Etiketa tiskarna d.d. Žiri and its contractors.
In the research we have, with the help of analyses and comparisons, as well as considering the quality parameters, established, that the newly selected R2 screen printing ink could replace the existing R1. Though, in spite of good results, it would be necessary to ensure that with the changes of the recipes the same colour shade would be achieved.
