Abstract

Title:
Jump height and angle of incidence of the basketball jump shot over different high obstacles
Abstract:
The main purpose of the present master degree study is to find out how the specific characteristics of the basketball jump shot (jump height, angle of incidence) over various obstacles of different heights are modified and their influence on the precision of jump shot. Due to the fact that we wished to establish what is going on with the parabola of ball flight, we were interested in what measure the basketball players use their potential in reactive strength during the jump shot with regard to the fact that the shot is hindered or not and what are the changes of the angle of incidence. To obtain the concrete results of the jump height and angle of incidence during the shot over the obstacle or defensive player we helped ourselves with the »94Fifty® smart ball« and force plate. By increasing the obstacle height the successfulness of shots was decreasing and the ball angle of incidence as well as the jump height were increasing. We found out that the jump shots over obstacles of different heights are significantly lower in comparison with the maximal i. e. »countermovement jumps«. By the shot over the obstacle with the height of player's reach height (»DV«) and the obstacle which is higher for 20 cm of player's reach height (»DV+20«), the measuring subjects exploit only ¼ of the reactive strength (height of the jump) potential regarding the height measured during the maximal jump shot. By obstacle that is higher for 40 cm of player's reach height (»DV+40«), they exploit approximately 1/3 of the above stated potential. Furthermore we establish that the players who jump higher during CMJ tests (countermovement jump; 3 types of tests) would not jump higher at the jump shot too. The present data could use us to improve the jump shot technique in similar playing situations which are rather frequent and have a considerable influence on the playing successfulness of the basketball players.
