The main goal of this thesis lies in the presentation of victorian society and it's main characteristics. Above all it will focus on the society itself, it's history, political events of the period and it's most popular ideas, wich managed to shape, some way or another, victorian society as a whole. We will be specially interested in those aspects within this topics, which appear in the works of Charles Dickens. With the help of Dickens' novels, comments and critics regarthing his own era, we will try to reach a better perspective of victorian society. For this reason we will also take a look at the life of Charles Dickens, specially at those moments, where he came across the very themes which he ended up using in his novels and which encouraged him to tell his reading public about the dark side of London.
