The thesis deals with an ecocritical analysis of two literary works; through a comparative analysis the novels Oryx and Craxe (Margaret Atwood) and The Ward of Mary Help of Christians (Ivan Cankar) are examined; for the needs of the research examples of Cankar's prose are included as well. The core task is to establish how the animal manifests itself in the text, what the relation with it is like an how this relationship is expressed. The thesis also considers the novel's relation to nature and human beings.
