Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) born Parisian had an interesting relationship with his city. He loved it, judged it and criticized it all at once. Baudelaire's character is fascinating because of his dramatic and extreme behaviour. His poetry marked the European and world literature and had a great influence on many authors. With his collection of prose poems titled Le Spleen de Paris he laid the foundations for prose poetry. In this work, I shortly described Paris between 1800 and 1870 and discussed how some events affected Baudelaire. I tried defining the term flâneur and establishing his role in the urban culture of the 19th century. I also searched for and described some motifs of city life that appear in Le Spleen de Paris and Les fleurs du mal.
