Abstract

Abstract:
This bachelor thesis explores the mythological creatures in Slovenia, specifically in the area of the Slovenian Istria. The mythology shows the beginning and the end of the world after the belief of the pagans, who lived in the area of today's Slovenia. The Slovenian mythology is full of Christianity, which is why this bachelor thesis contains the interpretation of the connection between Christianity and mythology. Moreover, it contains the presentation of how the Slovenian mythology is connected with Slovenian folk tales and what are the essential mythological creatures that prove this. The later chapters present the fabled beings that are typical for the Istria region. What is more, they are presented in connection with the mythological creatures in Slovenia and in connection with fairy-tale beings that are typical for Slovenian folk tales. The last chapter contains two stories from the book Uroki polni lune by Marjan Tomšič, which show the fabled beings and the mythological creatures in the Istria region. After the research, the similarities between the mythological creatures in Slovenia and the creatures from Tomšič's book Uroki polni lune are shown.
