Abstract

Abstract:
The 19th century is in schools known as one of most dull periods in History, however it is also one of most significant. With the "Spring of Nations" in 1848 it gave us also one of most widely known historical years, also it introduced us to the rise of nationalism, whose beginnings are set into the French revolution. The national movements came also to the Habsburg monarchy, consequently also into the modern Slovenian space. With young cheerful intellectuals, the Young Slovenes, whose knowledge came from the foreign schools, especially Vienna, the Slovenian people got their first national activists. However, their opinions were different in small but key elements. The ideas of Illyrism, Pan-Slavism, etc. were infiltrated in their ideology of a Slovenian nation. They have written their ideas down in various papers, such as Slovenski Narod, Naprej, Slovenec, etc. They have also written about political troubles of the near areas, especially with the (German) rule and about the "wrongdoings" of their political opposition (the Old Slovenes). The ideas were also shown in literature, which was definitely closer to an average citizen. The poems, plays, novels were showing the ideas in practical cases while helping with educating and cultivating the modern Slovenian space.
