The thesis is devoted to the topic of the Holocaust with an emphasis on concentration camps. It focuses on Primo Levi`s If this is a man and Imre Kertész`s Fateless and highlights the differences in the two main narrators confrontation with their fate. Both works are testimonies, even though their basis is very different. Novel Fateless is fictional, while Levi`s If this is a man is, according to Zlobec the novel hybrid or Romanesque memoirs. Levi`s approach to describing and testimony is strictly rational, while Kertész`s story adds depth to the storyline and evokes much deeper feelings in readers. In the thesis I have therefore focused mainly on the main narrator's feelings, and thus try to present two very different descriptions of this terrible part of our history.
