Introduction: Urine incontinence negatively impacts not only the physical domain of the lives of women, but also the psychological, emotional and social domain. It can affect women of all age ranges, their urological and gynaecological health and the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. Urine incontinence is acknowledged as a serious global health problem, which affects the quality of life in women. It is also strongly connected to the intimate aspect of the affected women’s lives. Purpose: The purpose of my graduate thesis is to present the issues of women with urine incontinence and effects on sexual activity in women. Methods: In making this graduate thesis we have used a descriptive method of work, researched local and foreign literature published from 2008 to 2018. The researching of literature took place from December 2016 until April 2017. We searched through literature with the help of the CINAHL and Science Direct database. For local literature we have used the database COBIB.SI. We looked for technical literature in the field of psychology, health care, urology and gynaecology. Discussion and conclusion: Urine incontinence is still a taboo topic and a big global health problem. This causes more and more women to suffer and go into hiding. The research of literature showed that women do not go to the doctor, when they notice a problem, because they feel uncomfortable and ashamed. They often isolate themselves socially and psychologically because of this. They turn a blind eye to their problems and attribute the incontinence to old age and consider it a natural progression of their life instead of a legitimate health condition. They are ashamed to talk about it because they are afraid of being stigmatized. The women who burden themselves with their symptoms, have a lesser quality of life in comparison to the women who accept their symptoms. It affects their everyday life and also their sex life. Because of this they limit their sexual activity and have a lesser desire for it because they feel unattractive. It is very important for them to talk about this to their partner and their doctor. Nurses should also actively question women about this problem and teach them of pelvic floor exercises. People need to be made aware of the issue of urine incontinence and its effect on the quality of life in women.
