Communication, commitment, emotional intimacy and sexuality belong among the most essential aspects of partnership and are also connected with satisfaction with the latter. In the Master’s Thesis we presented their theoretical framework and with the quantitative research studied the mutual connection among communication, commitment, emotional intimacy and sexual satisfaction as well as their connection or differences according to the demographic information of the participants (sex, age, number of children, marital status and duration of partnership).
The research included 487 participants (218 women and 269 men) in a partnership. They filled in the internet questionnaire, which contained the questionnaire about communication, commitment, emotional intimacy and sexual satisfaction as well as questions about the demographical information. The results showed (1) that communication, commitment, emotional intimacy and sexual satisfaction are statistically significantly linked variables, (2) that women who feel more committed to their partner are also more satisfied with sexuality, (3) that men who feel more committed to their partner experience more rewarding communication and more emotional intimacy in the relationship, (4) that both, men and women, statistically significantly link emotional intimacy with communication and sexual satisfaction – both sexes link it especially with communication, (5) that both sexes statistically significantly link communication with sexual satisfaction, (6) that satisfaction with sexuality statistically significantly decreases with the duration of partnership, (7) that regarding commitment there is on average no statistically significantly difference between married and unmarried, (8) that communication, emotional intimacy and sexual satisfaction are statistically significantly linked with a person’s age, while commitment isn’t, and (9) that there is no statistically significant link between communication, commitment, emotional intimacy, sexual satisfaction and the number of children.
Communication, commitment, emotional intimacy and sexual satisfaction are mutually importantly linked components of a partnership regardless of the individual’s sex, therefore they deserve attention within the partnership and in the therapeutic process when working with couples. Improving one means improving all of them.
