Abstract
Razprava in zaključek: Zdravstvena nega oseb z najtežjo motnjo v duševnem in telesnem razvoju je zelo zahtevna.

Title:Nursing care of a person after getting over herpetic encephalitis : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Viral infections of the central nervous system are a serious public health problem since a lot of people who had been affected by herpes simplex encephalitis and later on recovered, now suffer from permanent neurological problems which show as mental and physical disabilities. In children and adolescents who have recovered from these infections they are often shown on different levels of severity. People with the most severe mental or physical impairments are incapable of functional independence in daily living skills. Thus, they require intensive nursing care, which means 24 hour monitoring and meeting their needs. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to present the complexity of nursing care of an individual who has suffered permanent damage after recovering from herpes simplex encephalitis; the highlight is on the role of a nurse as the provider of nursing care in the Education, Work and Care Centre Dolfka Boštjančič in Draga. Methods: The descriptive research method has been used in the preparation of this thesis. The thesis focuses on a case-study of an individual who got infected with herpes simplex encephalitis and suffered permanent damage. His condition has been assessed according to the 10 basic human needs stated by Virginia Henderson. Discussion and conclusion: Providing nursing care to people with the most severe mental and physical disorders is particularly demanding. It is of utmost importance that nursing care standards are observed, since they affect the quality of one's life. Nurses are actively involved in the process of nursing care and they are responsible for all the decisions or actions they undertake.
