The master’s thesis deals with the area of leadership, the role of leaders in motivating and rewarding employees, and the difference between satisfied and committed employees. The theoretical part of the master’s thesis is explained by with the case of the reality show Undercover Boss in the empirical part. In the show, directors/business owners perform different undercover work among their employees. Thus, they learn about the working processes and actual working conditions. Based on different confessions of employees, directors/business owners learn what they can improve and who actually works more/less and who deserves a reward, promotion or even a notice. At the end of each show, the Director confronts the employees he worked with, rewards them and takes into account their given suggestions and ideas. Every single employee gains a sense of being noticed within their company for their effort by that. Based on that show, we explored the possibility of introducing the concept into the Slovenian companies. For that purpose, we interviewed nine leaders in eight different companies. The key results of the survey show that the concept is a great way to motivate employees. In practice, however, the leaders would not attend that experiment. They believe that we lack enough big companies to implement this concept. It is a form of surreptitious surveillance and this concept is not necessary because they are all well enough aware of all the working processes. They estimate that their leadership, motivation, and the reward system in the company are good enough. Consequently, their employees are motivated, satisfied, and engaged enough in their workplace.
