In the framework of the diploma thesis I studied structural injection grouts used to strengthen structural elements of historical buildings. First, we have to meet criteria regarding strengthening of the buildings, which assure their mechanical resistance and stability. Secondly, we have to preserve architectural heritage by taking into account the conservation and restoration approaches. This means that the originals are not removed, and new interventions are minimal.
We focused on the use of white Portland cement, with which we aimed to prepare grout mixture with optimum stability. We designed several compositions of lime-cement grout mixtures, with different cement contents. Our goal was production of grout mixture with high enough stability at minimum cement content that assures adequate mechanical resistance of masonry wall and at the same time compatibility with original materials of the wall.
The diploma thesis initially presents approaches to conservation of cultural heritage buildings and the reasons for the decay of materials and elements. In continuation, criteria for the preparation of injection grouts of adequate quality are presented. Finally, we present the composition of tested grout mixtures and their properties in fresh and hardened state.
