Due to its general usability maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important plant species for agricultural production. We cultivate it for human and animal consumption, and it is also growing popular as an organic substrate in biogas plants. Yield depends on many factors such as plant variety, maturity class (FAO), soil type, weather conditions etc. Nowadays, in desire for more sustainable production we are introducing the conservation soil tillage in addition to conventional tillage by moldboard plow. At conservation tillage at least 30 % of a field stays covered with residues of previous crop. Each kind of cultivation requires specific machines and knowledge, to avoid doing more damage than benefits to our land. We should be aware that even if the conservation cultivation is cheaper and it takes less time for operations, it is not necessarily more economical or even possible and appropriate everywhere, because of permanence of weeds which results in bigger herbicide usage.
