Naslov:Authority and autonomy from Štefan Steiner's point of view
Izvleček:
The purpose of this dissertation is to either confirm or refute a hypothesis that a Christian in their moral actions is divided between freedom and duty. On one hand they have autonomy which is given to them by God and that same autonomy is the one that returns them back to God as their final purpose. On the other hand there is His authority which helps a person grow and realise their purpose. The authority which we have to have in mind is God himself which reveals Himself after the revelation and shows Himself in the understanding of reason and moral sense which reveal law set by Him. In the opposition are Doctors of Church. There should be emphasis on the Church’s mission to help with people’s personal growth and realization of freedom, which is nowadays often misused. We will take a look at all that through the words of Štefan Steiner, a professor of moral theology. After Second Vatican Council, he wanted to find a new understanding of moral theology which would be separated from law and would lead to more active relationship with Christ thorough human activity. Steiner tried answering the question of God’s call to man, which shows itself through moral conventions. A man was called to recognise and act in accordance with moral laws. A man is not an abstraction but a person who lives and acts in certain space and time. That is why we will talk about a moral situation and concrete decisions of human conscience. Since we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of encyclical “Humane Vitae” with which professor Steiner had a special connection, this year, we will also give some attention to this encyclical as an example of how authority of Doctors of Church and Christian’s autonomy meet. This work is a review of complete works of Professor Steiner. We will also compare and analyse Steiner’s thought with the path Church made at the time of his life and especially after his death. That way we will actualise the content with modern knowledge. This work might contribute to understanding of Post-Council period world, as well as Slovenian Church of that time, in a light of thought and search of a way for a better approach in the pastoral itself and in search of “speech” with which we as a Church are faced in today’s world, which is more and more indifferent towards Christianity.
