In this thesis we address the problem of how we can use the latest technology to affect learning, which is usually predominantly reading through the subject material from the textbook. We analyze the electronic and interactive textbooks and the apps that use augmented reality for learning that are present on the market.
As a part of the thesis we commit to developing the solution with the help of augmented reality, which appears to have a potential within the scope of more effective independent learning. In the practical part of the thesis, we describe how we planned and executed the multimedia content, which can help to better represent some concepts than written word. We design and develop a mobile application, that upgrades an ordinary printed textbook with augmented reality technology.
To evaluate the potential for use of the textbooks upgraded with augmented reality, we test our solution on users that are currently in the period of education and are facing the subject material in book format on a daily basis. In accordance with the testing, we find out on which aspects can the augmented textbooks offer us more, and at the same time, we present what we have to be cautious about, when we design them. We summarize the results into coherent conclusions and propose possible improvements regarding our solution.
