The aim of presented graduation thesis was to determine the influence of fruit diet on athletes. Fruit is a common name for edible fleshy seed-associated structures of perennial plants. Fruits are generally divided into 5 groups: pome fruits, stone fruits, berry fruits, nuts and exotic fruits. Composition of fruits depends on the fruit species. For example, apple has higher water content than walnut, which generally has high content of fats. Fruits generally have high water and carbohydrates content. This composition is very suitable for athletes. Water is important for hydration and carbohydrates are the most important source of energy for athletes. We figured out that berry fruits positively affected time until exhaustion therefore athletes can train and compete for a longer time. It also had a positive effect on skin, brain, eyes and bones. Berry fruits also improved physical power, explosiveness and blood sugar concentration. Stone fruits reduced muscle pain and improved muscle recovery. Cherries improved runners' results due to melatonine content which controls sleeping. Better sleep leads to fewer injuries. Exotic fruits increased blood glucose, it maintained blood sugar concentration and improved results. It also raised potassium ion concentraion which leads to faster muscle recovery after strain and less painful muscles. Exotic fruits increased blood flow, vein diameter and time until exhaustion. We can conclude that fruit has a positive effect on athletes and their results. It is therefore desired that fruit is an important part of athlete's diverse nutrition.
