In the last few years the internet technology has intensively expanded also to the field of children toys, these toys that are connected to the internet network (smart toys) are becoming more and more popular and their use among children is becoming more common. Marketing campaigns emphasize interactivity and adaptability of such toys, with which the child can develop easier, faster and can acquire new knowledge. All of the mentioned advantages are available because of the constant connection to the internet network, which on the other hand is already raising controversy among experts and parents. The constant connection to the internet poses a threat to child’s privacy and exposes the child to new vulnerabilities hitherto unknown to the world of toys. Children are particularly vulnerable and taking care of their safety is of utmost importance. The goal of my dissertation will be to check the presence of smart toys among Slovenian children, what are the main motives for buying such toys and whether Slovenian parents have any concerns and/or reservations regarding purchasing and using smart toys.
