Due to urbanization, agricultural land is under the constant pressure. With the world population growth, the need for housing, shopping centres, and most important, the needs for food, are increasing. Soil sealing has negative effect on its properties and functions. Those consequences may be mitigated by some measures, however the loss of agricultural land can't be restored. Problem of soil sealing in Slovenia is becoming more important every day due to the fact, that we don't have a lot of good quality agricultural land and most of it is in less-favoured areas for agricultural activity. We must be aware of importance of agricultural land and do everything in our power for its protection and sustainable management. The main role in its protection has the government, which has to prioritize the protection of agricultural land and reconstruct the land policy in a way that it will be successful in preventing change of agricultural land in urban land.
