The thesis focuses on analyzing changes in social security. The theoretical part presents the role of the state in ensuring social security and how this relates to the welfare state and social policy. Then we take a closer look at the Slovenian welfare state system and social security systems. The emphasis is mainly on changes in legislation and social transfers for families with children. Families with children are those who often find themselves on or below the poverty threshold. Social security measures are aimed at the socially vulnerable people. They should prevent poverty and social exclusion. Although social transfers prove to be extremely important in reducing the risk of poverty rate, we can see throughout the research that more needs to be done to improve this area and drastically reduce the level of those below the poverty threshold. In addition, it turns out that the legislative measures of the recent years have brought positive and negative changes.
