In the present work, the influence of the surface and the material of the heater on the pool boiling critical heat flux is investigated using dielectric fluid FC-72 as the working fluid. Zirconium heaters in form of thin strips were utilized; the surfaces of the heaters were either untreated or laser treated. Additionally, the influence of the heater strip height on the critical heat flux was analyzed. Critical heat flux of up to 149,5 kW/m2 was reached on the untreated surface, whereas laser treatment of the surface increased the critical heat flux values with the latter reaching up to 173,5 kW/m2. It was also determined that critical heat flux deceases with increasing heater strip height.
