The aim of this bachelor thesis is to connect biotechnology with globalization and to find out it’s positive and negative sides in globalized world and how it is affecting society. I focused on correlation between information technology and biotechnology and how are they affecting geopolitics. Use of biotechnology can cause risks like bio colonialism, which is gaining the territory with the use of biological weapon, bioterrorism and bio wars. Characteristics of Western world are dominating the global society and so it also has a big power in biotechnology. One of the main global problems that biotechnology is trying to solve is producing enough food for the world population. They are making new plant organisms and genetically modified organisms, which would ensure more food and more good quality food. That food can also be a source of medicine. Using biotechnology can cause social classification or elitism due to high prices of genetic tests and therapies. They have to take into an account the right of individual decision making and other ethical beliefs of societies. Biotechnology’s biggest focuses will be on providing food, artificial creating of biological materials, medicine and genetic therapy.
