Abstract

Title:
Workplace workout for standing professions
Abstract:
Nowadays the number of workplaces that as a consequence of the use of the modern technologies demand less and less physical activity and effort from their employees is increasing. Furthermore, the employees are often exposed to static and unnatural postures, mental effort and stressful situations. Regular physical activity, including in the workplace itself, could reduce or even prevent negative consequences on health that are provoked by the modern lifestyle. The purpose of this thesis was to review the existing literature and research papers that studied the negative consequences of the standing jobs on the body. Results show that most people at such workplaces feel pain in the lower back, have pain in their legs and run a bigger risk of developing the venous diseases and varicose veins. Women at such workplaces are also more likely to have problems with their pregnancy. The goal of the thesis was to form a six week exercise program for standing professions, based on the results from the reviewed literature. Individuals could carry out this program during their active break at the workplace. The program consists of simple strengthening and stretching exercises that help to decrease the risk of negative consequences on the body and health of the employees. This thesis could benefit professionals who are in charge of the workouts at the workplace, but also to individuals who work in a mostly standing job and would like to take care of their health and condition by exercising during their break.
