Abstract

Title:Collaboration between teachers for blind and visually impaired and parents during early intervention
Abstract:
Early intervention is really important during the development of a child with visual impairment. Researches emphasis delays in the development of children that are born blind. Providing early intervention for those children can actually reduce delays in development. The child's family is its primary environment and they play an important role in a child's development. When the focus of early intervention widened from only the child also to its family, the inclusion and cooperation between parents and early intervention's experts became a lot more important. Although many researches are showing lack of cooperation between parents and experts during early intervention. One imporant part of this is also home-based early intervention which is not so common in Slovenia. For the empiracl part of our master thesis we designed a semi-structured interviw which was based on theoretical findings and helped us to examined to what extent parents of children with visual impairments are cooperating with teachers for children with visual impairments, their satisfaction with this cooperation and their awareness of home-based early intervention. The results are showing that parents are satisfied with their cooperation and inclusion in the entire process of early intervention. However they show interest in being included even more. We found differences between parents and their cooperations and inclusion in early intervention. Parents also pointed out that there is a lack of cooperation between all experts that are working with their child during early intervetion.Parents already heard for home-based early intervention. They feel the need of use of home-based early intervetion.
