Abstract

Title:»Križanke in autumn« - Rihard Jakopič
Abstract:
Rihard Jakopič, one of the most renowned Slovenian painters, is considered the pioneer of Slovenian Modernism in which he had an important role as a painter, organiser, teacher, critic, and theoretician. Along with Ivan Grohar, Matija Jama, and Matej Sterne, these four painters formed a group of Slovenian Impressionists who managed to create the notion of Slovenian visual arts. Their signature and excellent works of art greatly contributed to the cultural identification of Slovenians as members of an independent cultural community. One of these paintings is also Križanke in Autumn (1909), which was first introduced by Jakopič in 1910 during the Spring art exhibition as part of the Series: The view of the Križanke church at his gallery, can be seen at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana. At first glance, it seems that the painting shows a colourful interpretation of the impression of nature but, at the same time, offers a projection of the painter’s mood regarding both the chosen moment as well as its depiction. A formal, iconographic and contextual analysis of the painting was followed by a description of the context of the gallery. Next, we prepared the material for pupils and teachers. The questions and activities aimed at children attending all three educational periods in elementary school had an emphasis on discussing works of arts as a key method to getting acquainted with these works. An interdisciplinary approach was used when formulating the questions and activities. A lot of effort was also dedicated to how to best present the work of art, the artist and the period in the best way possible, which would allow us to emphasize the importance of integrating arts into our lives and school.
