Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava razmerje med poročevalskim besedilom in fotografijo, in sicer v obdobju enega meseca v dveh slovenskih časnikih – Delu in Dnevniku.

Title:The relationship between a journalistic text and a photograph– exemplifying the newspapers Delo and Dnevnik
Abstract:
The master's thesis analyses the relationship between the narration and the photograph during the period of one month in two Slovene newspapers – Delo and Dnevnik. It focuses on the current affairs column – »aktualno« in Delo and »v ospredju« in Dnevnik – on world news and on sport. Photographs in newspapers are imperfect, hence they are positioned next to the other parts of an article, such as the title, the narration or the whole article. The text reinforces the contents of the image, thus guiding the reader into a specific direction. Photographs never appear without the narration, so it is important that the readers understand the relationship between the two. Information in its completeness is acquired both through language and visual structure. In most cases, photographs in the analysed newspapers function as a means of supporting the text, but they are also used merely to fill empty space on a page, especially in Delo. The format of Delo is larger than the one of Dnevnik, and for that reason, they need more images to break up the monotony of texts. Tomo Korošec (1998) divided the relationship between photographs and texts into seven different types. Throughout my research, I came to a conclusion that these types have changed to some extent whilst new ones were developed. This can be due to the development of journalism, commercialization of journalism, and due to the change of the manner in which media coverage works. In his work (1998), Korošec emphasized that in connecting the text with the photographs, particular text units have a specific role: unattached, accompanying in indicating connectors. These have not changed a great deal since his research, only the accompanying connector »On the image« was substituted by the connector »On the photograph«. They still play the same role in connecting, as Korošec has established.
