Abstract

Title:The redempive power of the Lamb's blood
Abstract:
This thesis has three main questions and for that three chapters. The first one is working on a meaning and purpose of the blood in the Old Testament. Animal sacrifices and its purpose is shown in the second chapter. In the last chapter the solution for both is found through the blood of sacrificed New Testament’s Lamb. The first chapter is exploring a Hebrew linguistic use of »blood«, explanation and derivation of it and its concept until the time of Christ. After that it is written in which context in Old Testament this liquid is mentioned. Next part of the text is a research of other – to old Jews near – cultures’ understanding of the blood. Through that it is shown, that Jewish nation was special in its symbolical meaning. After few words about sacrifices, second chapter is dealing with three main Old Testaments’ offerings: burnt, peace and sin offering. Student then makes a research on how they understood the sacrifice through the history and is asking herself what was its purpose. In the last chapter all the themes find its purpose through God’s Lamb: role of (His) blood and the purpose of the Torah. Foreword indicates that Christ is true paschal Lamb. Second subchapter is a reaction on Jewish fuzzily understanding of blood and the role it had in sacrifices through Jesus’ sacrifice. The last subchapter is an explanation of Jewish understanding of sacrifices and Torah through Christ’s New Testaments’ blood, which was spilled because of the obedience to Love. The main finding about sacrifices is that the Lamb was offered as in Jewish offerings, and so found the purpose of it. Besides, the main finding about Christ’s blood is that his »sinful death« cleansed off humanity's faults, consecrated it and through reconciliation with God and fellow man led to (eternal) life. The peak sacrifice which human can offer to God is his blood – life – in the obedience to Love; role model of that can be INRI.
