This master thesis investigates the mother - daughter relationship during the adolescence.
In the theoretical part of the thesis, family and the roles in the family are presented. Since mother has a special bond with the child from the child's birth, the author decided to focus on the attachment theory and the importance of the attachment from the adolescence to the adulthood. After that the focus was given to the parenthood and motherhood, because they both have a significant effect on a child's development.
After the basic description of the theme the author introduces specific themes connected with the research of the thesis. So we learn about teenage years, female gender identity development, the role of mother in adolescence, communication and demarcation line between mother and daughter.
In the empirical part of the thesis the author presents the qualitative research with the phenomenological method, which easily shows the experience and the feelings of the participants.
Author had half-structured interviews with six research participants. the main questions were: how daughters experience their mothers, what do they feel about them, what do they wish from their mothers and are there any borders in their relationship.
The results of the research show that the participants desire security, understanding and support from their mothers. They think of their mothers as a friend, but this friendship is not the one we are used to.
