Within the master thesis we investigate the quality of the joint between two materials of the two-component injection moulding used for the manufacturing of rotors and made from thermoplastic polyphenylene sulphide. The exterior of the rotor is exposed to water during its operation. That is why, it is important to ensure a good connection between the two injected components, since the presence of the water in the rotor will deteriorate the electromagnetic properties of the rotor.
Within the thesis, we first checked the mechanical properties of the joints between the two components on the test samples, that were produced under different manufacturing conditions. This was followed by the production of the rotor with two-component injection moulding and its testing. The quality of the joint on the rotor was assessed in two ways: by testing the mechanical strength of the rotor joint and the helium leak test. Based on the tests, it was found that for good mechanical coupling of both components, manufacturing cycle time and the temperature of the second injection component are important.
