Abstract

Title:Collection design based on horticulture
Abstract:
The BA thesis titled "Collection design based on horticulture" represents the entire design process from the initial inspiration to the end product. The purpose of the BA thesis was to design a collection grounded on horticulture by using a modern approach. The theoretical review section of this thesis starts with a short description and provides the definition of horticulture which lead to further research. The section explores landscape architecture and its effect on fashion design. Presented are some modern landscaping projects that show the importance of integrating nature and artificial environments. People are increasingly aware of nature's importance and strive to coexist with it, which is also one of the main reasons that gardening has become a hobby for many. The theoretical section continues with a brief evolution of gardening clothes throughout history. The presentation focuses on women’s land army clothes, modern gardening clothes and their key clothing pieces, as well as designer collections inspired by gardening clothes. The principle of sustainability concerning clothes strongly portrays how deeply embedded nature is in the fashion industry.  The experimental section focuses on the development of the design process for the women's collection, which is linked with the theoretical section. The whole process is shown, from the starting point using sketches, technical sketches, materials and colors to pictures of the final production. The target group for which the collection was made is defined and described. It presents the realization of the selected pieces. The main emphasis is on pieces of simple cut that are garnished with details and originate from gardening clothes.
