Introduction: Ankle injuries are one of the most common injuries in the active population of people between 20 and 65 years of age. Late rehabilitation after an ankle sprain begins when the patient can place full burden on the injured joint. Using functional exercise the patient’s muscular strength is increased, his or her endurance is improved and problems with proprioception are minimised. The functional phase of the rehabilitation prepares the patient for return to full activity. The proprioception exercises should include tilt and balance boards, which stimulate the use of muscles that pronate and supinate the foot. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to present late physiotherapy treatment of a patient after an ankle sprain. The treatment took place in a health resort. Working methods: The thesis is a case report of a patient after an ankle sprain. The physiotherapy treatment was carried out in a spa, where the problems and objectives of physiotherapy were exposed, based on an anamnesis, inspection and palpation, mobility and muscle measurement, pain assessment and time measurement functional tests. All testings were carried out on the first and on the last day of the hearing. In order to achieve results different methods of kinesiotherapy and physical therapy were applied. Results: After eight physiotherapy treatments results have been successfully achieved. The range of motion has improved in the ankle joint in all directions of movement. The scope of the limb under the ankle has decreased by 1.5 cm, over the heel by 0.5 cm and by 1 cm over the foot. The power of muscles has improved by 1 point in all muscle groups tested. After eight treatments pain has decreased by 2 points on the VAL scale. Better results were also recorded with time trials: in a 10-metre walk by 3 seconds, in the timed up and go test by 2 seconds and in a modified Romberg test, the average improvement was 1-6 seconds. Discussion and conclusion: The case presented shows that the treatment after the ankle sprain has been successful. The most attention was directed towards improving mobility and reducing pain, where the best results were achieved. The methods and physiotherapy techniques selected have been successful.
