The Home for the Elderly is an institution dedicated to the existence and protection of the
elderly and to persons in need of all-day assistance. In Slovenia, as in other countries, they
are faced with difficulties in financing home-based services for the elderly. In order to
provide quality care in homes for the elderly, in all countries, they want the price of services
to be as low as possible and accessible to all who need this type of care. The research
challenge of the master's thesis was to determine the ways of financing homes for the
elderly and determining the prices for services, and on the basis of the research to
determine how it is regulated in this field. The challenge was also to explore the business of
selected homes for the elderly and regulate the field of market activity carried out by homes
for the elderly. Methods of research are data acquisition, comparison of the operations of
selected homes for the elderly, a questionnaire for the director of the home for the elderly,
and a questionnaire for the elderly, which included questions such as accessibility to the
institution, affordability and acceptability of the attitude of employees to the elderly. The
results showed that homes for the elderly do business in the majority positively; the
problem is evident in the implementation of the market activity, as certain homes operate in
an enterprise, which is reflected in the surplus of income on expenditure. When examining
the questionnaire for directors, questions were answered to those questions that were
unexplained through the master's thesis. By processing the survey questionnaire, I found
that when paying home the services are mostly supported by the relatives of the elderly, the
prices of services are for the most high, access to old people's homes is reflected by long
queues, the elderly are mostly satisfied with the care provided by the employees in the
home for the elderly.
