Swimming is the basic form of moving in the water. It presents humans’ control of water with their own forces and allows them safe movement in the desired direction on the water surface and under it (Kapus, 2011). In this master's thesis we will focus on competitive swimming more specifically on swimmers of different age categories who compete in competitive systems.
The environment, that surrounds and is a part of the path of the swimmer has a great impact on his results. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to compare and analyze some of the psychological influences of the environment on the swimmers. The factors that we will analyze more thoroughly and try to find a relationship between them are: family relationship – swimmer, coach relationship – swimmer, the influence of school on the swimmer and the influence of amount of free time on the swimmer.
In this master’s thesis we also focused on the achievement of the swimmer. We defined the boarder of swimmers’ success with the help of the levels that are displayed by the FINA points in every individual discipline. The gathered data was compared and processed with the help of the SSPS application. The methods that we used were the calculation of basic statistics, correlation of coefficients, t – test for independent samples and variance analyzes.
We determined that the coach and the family have a greater impact on the swimmer’s performance then the quality of free time and the arrangement of school. The analyzed psychological impacts of the environment have different effect on male and female swimmers and on swimmers of different age categories.
