In my diploma thesis I focused on the role of the educator in promoting the speech-language development of pre-school children. In the theoretical part I defined speech and language, presented the main theories of speech development and their differences and similarities. I continued with the relationship between thinking and speaking. I have described in more detail the factors that influence the children's language-linguistic development and phases of speech-language development. I also described the role of the educator in promoting the speech-language development of pre-school children, ways in which it can be promoted in the kindergarten and the exercises that can be used to promote it.
In the empirical part, I researched the role of the educator in promoting the speech-language development of pre-school children in kindergartens in Zasavje. The study included 60 preschool teachers and was carried out in accordance with a quantitative research paradigm. The descriptive method of pedagogical research was used. The results are interpreted with basic descriptive statistics using spreadsheets, graphs and summaries. The analysis showed that the teachers in kindergartens in Zasavje are aware of the importance of their role in promoting the speech-language development of children. They use the necessary activities, didactic materials and exercises to promote it. They are aware that a good relationship between educators and parents is crucial. Through the research, I gained insight into the current situation and the problems that teachers face in promoting the speech-language development of children.
