The valley of Poljane, situated along the river Kolpa, is a border region. It is a province where the number of inhabitants is constantly decreasing. The region is economically weak and undeveloped. However, it has great potential in its natural and cultural heritage, on the basis of which quality products designed for tourists can be developed. At the same time, and taking into account the principles of sustainable development, the long-term economic development of the area and the welfare of its inhabitants would greatly benefit. With the case study of the example of good practice, and by analysing the strategic documents that hold true for this area, I have developed guidelines which could contribute to the development of this valley, and have found that partnership is of key importance for this development. In general, integration and co-operation in tourism gives a competitive advantage to the destination, and is at the same time one of the principles for sustainable development. By studying the case, I have carried out two interviews - two similar views on the development of the valley of Poljane along the river Kolpa, but viewed from two different aspects.
