Abstract

Title:VIEW OF EMPLOYERS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPETENCIES IN RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS
Abstract:
Many young people nowadays are confronting with unemployment because of unmet conditions for job application. One of the options for acquiring competences and experiences is also the pursuit of volunteering. The problem is that competences acquired through volunteering are not recognized to the same extent as competences acquired in an employment relationship. In researches they came to conclusion that volunteering is a good starting point for youth and it represents one of the steps on the way to employment. The goal of the thesis is to indicate that volunteering can improve volunteer’s competences, which can increase employment options. Using the survey method and comparative analysis I have found out that volunteers gain competences which are also appreciated by employers. Volunteers stated that they mostly gain team orientation and organizational skills. Those are the same competences that employers most often expect from job candidates. The results from the survey show that volunteering helped 47 % of respondents in the path to employment. However, the findings from the previous study show that employers more and more appreciate competences gained through non-formal education. Five of eleven employers think that these competences are very important, and five of eleven employers would take into account these competences under certain conditions while recruiting. With appropriate and precise description of competences gained by volunteering volunteers can get an advantage over other candidates and gain employers’ interest. In this way a young individual who was not able to gain competences in employment relationship can improve their employment opportunities by pursuing volunteering.
