Sedentary lifestyle represents one of the biggest problems in today’s information technology oriented society. Studies show that duration of sitting among residents of Slovenia and European Union has increased. According to some data 46,0% of Slovenes sit daily between 2 and a half hours and 5 and a half hours and 17,0% between 5 and a half hours and 8 and a half hours. The negative effects of sitting are shown on musculoskeletal system, some structures are shortened and some lengthened. This causes acute joint pain, which leads to chronic musculoskeletal diseases. Musculoskeletal diseases represent the most common reason for absence in Slovenia. Latest data show that employed Slovenes, aged between 25 and 64 years, most often have lower back pain (50,0%), cervical and shoulder pain (34,6%) and spine (25,0%). Pain and musculoskeletal disorders reduce the ability of performing everyday tasks and work. Considering the fact that joint pain and lower flexibility are connected, we prepared a workout program with stretching exercises intended for people with sedentary occupation. The purpose of this program is maintaining or improving flexibility, consequently preventing pain. Workout for improving flexibility is simple to use and could be used daily at their workplace by every individual, who has long-term sedentary work. We assume that these people can maintain or improve their flexibility with systematic pursuance of this program, preventing joint pain and reducing the number of sick leave days.
