Sometimes female infertility can be a consequence of poor quality of oocytes or their irregular development. Transcription factor (TF) FIGLA has an impact on the formation of zona pellucida (ZP) and is included in important processes like oogenesis and folliculogenesis. In previous studies, many scientists have confirmed that cryopreservation and in vitro maturation (IVM) procedures affect the structure, function and genetics of oocytes, but in literature, there is no information yet on the impact of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedures on the expression of TF FIGLA in human oocytes. Treatment of infertility with IVF procedures and the fact that irregular oocyte development and infertility can depend on non-expression or changed expression of TF FIGLA, made us wonder if and how the procedures of IVM, vitrification/devitrification and slow freezing and warming affect the expression of TF FIGLA in different groups of human oocytes. All cells included in our research were, according to a specific procedure used for IVF, immunocytochemically marked as TF FIGLA and then the differences in pattern and strength of TF FIGLA expression were observed. The results showed some significant differences between oocytes: in their expression pattern in a singular cell and also in the expression of strength and pattern between different groups of cells, considering their maturity and previously mentioned procedures. Based on that, we can assume that IVF procedures affect the TF FIGLA expression, yet it is still unknown if these effects are indirect or not, for which further research is needed.
