The legislation in the Republic of Slovenia initially considered refugees as temporary immigrants. Such a policy aimed at the return of refugees has slowly changed, which was the main contribution of Slovenia to the EU and, consequently, the pursuit of European values, especially in the field of human rights protection.
The concept of refugee integration is based on the introduction and implementation of various integration projects with the aim of more active integration and cooperation of refugees in social processes. In Slovenia, this is achieved through the integration process in which the projects of acquaintance with Slovenian regulation, culture and history are organized. Slovenia, as a signatory to the Geneva Convention on the Status of Refugees and as a member of the European Union, introduced in its legal system the foundations for integration, in particular, with the Constitution protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms. , They have been defined in more detail in the Aliens Act-2 and the International Protection Act-1, pervading the principles set out in the Resolution on Migration Policy of 2002.
Civil society has greatly contributed to the changes in the regulation of refugees, and their work is most noticeable in the field, where it offers various forms of assistance, in particular by informing refugees of their rights and raising awareness of the local population about the need for successful integration as a mutual benefit.
Regardless of the fact that the legislative framework follows European directives and respects the standards established by international and European regulations, there are some prerequisites for good integration of the pressing problem (eg accommodation), while at the same time the implementation of the integration plan is not sufficiently emphasized as an individual approach or projects are not sufficiently adapted to the needs of the individual.
