In addition to the standardised tribological tests for determination of the coefficient of friction and wear at the sliding contacts under exactly defined testing conditions, the measured magnitudes of cutting forces can also be used as a measure for the self-lubrication of the composites produced. Such data are most commonly used as a measure for the machinability characteristics of a particular material. The paper presents the results of the synthesis of Fe-MnS2 composites produced with the process of hot-pressing. Their microstructural properties are related with the values of the cutting forces which were measured during the longitudinal turning process.
