Abstract

Title:Flectional derivation in Slovene toponyms (from a historical linguistic perspective)
Abstract:
The article demonstrate the as yet undescribed phenomenon of conversion of Slovene toponyms from genitive plural forms to new nominative singulars, delineating three stages of this process: a) toponyms in which the conversion has not affected local use (Jereslavec, but in the local dialect Jereslavci), b) toponyms in which the conversion has affected local (Otalež, formerly Otaleže), and c) toponyms in which the conversion has affected local use, but the standard forms retain the original state (Vrbljen, originally Vrbljene).
