The work analyzes employment possibilities for Slovenian graduates of librarianship. The possibilities of employment in the field are analyzed upon the accessible statistical data of library staff and unemployed librarians. Libraries will not manage to employ all new graduates, considering the generaltrend in society to increase productivity and lower costs in public libraries. Despite the expected wave of retirements in the 2010-2020 period and the need of libraries for more professionals, new positions for library graduates will not meet the demands. Statistical data of the Employment service of Slovenia for the year 2006 shows that 88% of new graduates had trouble finding suitable, not necessary social safe, employment. The results of three separate questionnaires are presented: between Slovenian head librarians, people employed in information field and publishing houses. They show only 75% possibility for employment of new graduates. The librarianship study program has been updated according to the Bologna declaration, yet it offers few new career possibilities, mostly in publishing.
