Abstract

Abstract:
The text starts with the hypothesis that Slovenian's attitudes toward Slovenian accession to EU are strongly influenced by ideological activities of the Slovene political elite and partly by the process of post-modernisation of Slovene society. The hypothesis is tested on the basis of data from the Slovene public opinion survey. It presents the results of a regression analysis which shows the following most important factors of Slovenes' attitudes toward Slovenian accession to EU: level of knowledge regarding European union and participation in mass media, level of education, lack of party affiliation, feeling of belonging to Europe as a cultural-geographic entity, and nationalism consisting of three dimensions - national pride, xenophobia and protectionism.
