Abstract
Alumina and zirconia ceramics were tested in water with different pH values. Reciprocating sliding tests at two different loads were used to investigate the wear and friction behaviour. Wear mechanisms were established by employing surface topography analyses and scanning electron microscopy. Results show important differences in wear and friction behaviour at different conditions and type of ceramics suggesting careful selection of the acqueous media for obtaining requested performance. Obtained different regimes and types of surface damage are presented in this work.
