Abstract
Raziskava izhaja iz konceptualnih izhodišč, da je za razumevanje delovanja demokracije potrebno opazovati sodelovanje in aktivnost državljanov, z vidika tako zaposlenih, kot tudi potrošnikov. S tem namenom se od leta 1991, v srednji in vzhodni Evropi izvaja raziskava Barometer nove demokracije - New Democracies Barometer (NDB), v koordinaciji Paul Lazarsfeld Society. Večletna raziskava zajema mednarodno primerljiva vprašanja na nacionalno reprezentativnih vzorcih. Raziskava spremlja spremembe v vedenjih in stališčih posameznikov o demokraciji in gospodarstvu. Glavna vprašanja se nanašajo na področje ekonomskega preživetja in na ocenjevanje političnih razmer. Raziskave Barometer nove Evrope z letom 2001 nadaljujejo serijo raziskav Barometer novih demokracij.

Abstract:
To monitor trends in public opinion in Central and East European societies the Paul Lazarsfeld Society, Vienna, created the New Democracies Barometer (NDB) in 1991. The NDB asks comparable questions of nationwide representative samples, and repeats key questions regularly to see how much or how little behaviour and attitudes change as people gain more experience of democracy and markets. The NDB questionnaire is designed to create political, social and economical indicators for various social science concepts. There is a common core of questions about: economic behaviour and expectations; political evaluations; poverty. The majority of questions asked in the 2001 survey had been asked in previous surveys.
