The diploma thesis deals with the current state and trends in the domain of religion and secularization, specifically with an emphasis on the young population of Spain. The theoretical part encompasses definitions of core research and discussion topics, related to religion, culture and social change (in Spain, particularly). In the continuation of the theoretical part, we focus on the current changes and challenges of Catholicism, with an emphasis on young people in Spain. The empirical part of the diploma thesis is based on the analysis of secondary data, mainly data from World Values Survey (2014), European Social Survey (2018) and Secularism in Figures (2018).This paper complements the existing body of knowledge by answering the research questionswith the following findings. We show that the influence and importance of the Catholic Church and religion on the youth has been decreasing steadily. This is not just a reflection of the lack of trust, but to some extent a result of diminishing interest in (practicing) Catholicism among youth. Finally, the paper shows the contemporary trends that indicate reduced importance of religion and religious rituals in the lives of young Spaniards.
