The presented diploma thesis presents the basic theory of collision between ball and rigid ground. First an extensive literature review was performed in order to identify developed modeling techniques for contact formulation. Selected contact algorithms were written in the form of mathematical models and the comparison of the results is performed. Based on the simulation results it was shown that damped model with nonlinear spring coefficient presents better approximation of real impact than the linear contact model with constant spring coefficient. The model with non-linear spring coefficient has the contact force in the region of maximal deformation equal to zero. The duration of contact is influenced by the value of contact velocity which is not the case when using linear contact model with constant spring coefficient. The diploma thesis presents the good basis for further research in this field and for implementation of more advanced contact models.
