Ces romans sont Quatrevingt-treize de Victor Hugo et A Tale of Two Cities de Charles Dickens. La première partie présente l’époque où les deux romans étaient écrits et parle du réalisme français et du réalisme anglais, des deux auteurs et des deux romans et du genre du roman historique, ses débuts et son évolution en France et en Angleterre. Dans la deuxième partie, on compare les deux romans. Les quatre motifs comparés sont la comparaison de Gauvain de Quatrevingt-treize et Sydney Carton d’A Tale of Two Cities, le motif des personnages féminins forts, la manière dont les deux auteurs présentent les deux côtés opposés du conflit et des connexions surprenantes entre des personnages des deux romans. The subject of this master’s thesis is a comparison of two historical novels set in the time of the French Revolution. The two novels are Quatrevingt-treize by Victor Hugo and A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The first part of the thesis presents realism as a literary movement in France and England, both authors and the two novels analysed in this thesis, as well as the genre of historical novel and its evolution in France and England. The second part of the thesis consists of the analysis of four motifs that can be found in both novels.
