The basic tasks of a data archive are described, especially of achieving the transparency of data, which helps secondary analysis. The main advantage is an assistance in the conceptualisation of new studies. This follows from appropriately arranged data archive holdings, which represents a preserved experience of past approaches to research problems in a form, easy to use for present researchers. The archive puts emphasis on the most important social science studies in a country, where users's requirements are one of the chief criteria.
